Vehicle Stop Leads To Arrest

On September 1, 2010 at 3:33 p.m., while on patrol, police officer Joshua Medrano observed a burgundy Chevrolet Venture traveling northbound on Walnut Street and across E. Westfield Avenue against the red traffic signal in violation of 39:4-81. A motor vehicle stop led to an investigation which resulted in the discovery of partially burnt rolled up cigar containing marijuana and a black plastic grocery bag containing two large clear sandwich bags full of marijuana. Additionally, another large clear sandwich plastic bag containing twenty (20) small individually packaged ziplock baggies of marijuana was discovered. A total weight of approximately 2.8 oz.

Juan Marcano of New York was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute more than one (1) ounce of marijuana and possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana. Marcano was committed to the Union County Jail in lieu of $15,000.00 bail with a Superior Court first appearance date of September 10, 2010.
