Vehicle Lamps Violation Ends In Arrest For Cocaine Possession

On August 16, 2011 at approximately 8:05 p.m. in the area of Chestnut Street and West Lincoln Avenue, Patrolman Richard Gaylord observed a silver Chevy pickup in violation of New Jersey Motor Vehicle statute 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps).

A motor vehicle stop resulted in the discovery of a dollar bill fold ($1 US currency) containing suspected cocaine.

The driver. Lilian Almanzar, age 59, and the passenger, Anthony Lowery, age 46, both of Elizabeth , NJ, were both placed under arrest and charged with 2C:35-10(a)(1).

Ms. Almanzar was released pending a Union County Superior Court date on August 24, 2011. Mr. Lowery was released to Elizabeth Police in lieu of $200 bail. Ms. Almanzar was also issued motor vehicle summonses: for 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps); 39:4-49.1 (CDS in a motor vehicle); and 39:6B-2 (uninsured motor vehicle).
