On January 14, 2011 while on patrol in the area of West Westfield Avenue and Locust Street, officer Richard Gaylord observed a brown Jeep in violation of NJ Motor Vehicle Statute 39:3-66. A motor vehicle stop was initiated into Roselle on Locust Street at 1st Avenue.
It was observed that the front seat passenger, identified as Brian Wright, 22, of Union, was not wearing his seatbelt as required by law. It was determined that Wright had an outstanding ATS warrant out of Union Township with a bail amount of $959.00. While attempting to place Wright under arrest, he pulled away to keep from being handcuffed. Officer Gaylord and Wright fell to the ground and began to wrestle. Wright was eventually handcuffed and placed under arrest. He was served with 2C:29-2(a)1 (resisting arrest) and was also given motor vehicle summons for 39:3-76.2F (seatbelt). Union PD was notified of the outstanding warrant and responded to take custody of Wright.
