Two Separate Vehicle Stops End In Arrests For Intent To Distribute CDS

At approximately 11:38 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) Patrolman Mitchell White conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2010 Dodge Charger on Locust Street and Warren Avenue for an expired temporary registration tag displayed on the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Tommie Newsome, age 26 of Hillside, was found to be in possession of a suspected controlled dangerous substance (CDS) of over one (1) ounce of heroin, packaged for sale, according to police. He was placed under arrest and charged with possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of CDS (heroin). Mr. Newsome was released on $30,000 bail.

A week and a half later, on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Patrolman Brian Macdonald conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 1999 Pontiac on 100 block of West Westfield Avenue for equipment violations. The driver of the vehicle, Ebony Cooper, of Newark was issued a traffic citation for the equipment violation.

Passengers Saahir Branch, age 18, and Luis Galindo, age 21 – both from Roselle Park were arrested. Mr. Branch was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Luis Galindo was charged with Possession of CDS (under 50 grams) of marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS within 1,000 feet of a School, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Turn Over CDS to Police.

Mr. Branch was released on a summons while Mr. Galindo was transported to the Union County Jail on $25,000 bail.
