During the early morning hours of Friday July 20th, Roselle Park Police responded to the area of 226 Chestnut Street for a report of a loud dispute (link to original article). The responding officers located an unconscious male lying on the sidewalk. Another male, a friend of the victim, stated they were attacked and robbed by a several men they just played pool with at Mulligan’s Pub. The victims refused medical attention at the scene. They did seek medical attention for facial abrasions and concussions at a later date.
A search of the area by police yielded no suspects.
During the week of July 23rd, the assault was investigated by Detectives from the Roselle Park Police Department. Based on interviews with the victims and witnesses along with evidence collected at the scene, police were able to identify the suspects.
Early this morning, two of the suspects were apprehended. Frank R. Derillo, age 28 of Roselle, was arrested and charged with Robbery, Possession of a weapon and 3 counts of Aggravated Assault. Derillo was remanded to the Union County in lieu of $175,000 bail.
Derillo’s brother, Louis Lewczak, age 31 of Point Pleasant, was arrested at his home and charged with Robbery, and 2 counts of Aggravated Assault. He was remanded to the Union County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Efforts to locate additional suspects are continuing at this time.
