On January 23, 2011 at approximately 8:04 p.m. in the area of East Westfield Avenue and Magie Avenue, Patrolman Richard Gaylord observed a blue Toyota traveling eastbound on East Westfield Avenue in violation of NJ Motor Vehicle Statute 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps). A motor vehicle stop on East Westfield Avenue at Walnut Street resulted in the discovery of a plastic knot of suspected cocaine and three (3) partially smoked marijuana cigarettes.
The driver, Fernando Ascoy, age 22 of Elizabeth, NJ was arrested and charged with 2C:35-10(a)(1) (possession of cocaine); 2C:35-10(a)(4) (possession of marijuana); 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps); 39:3-29 (failure to exhibit documents); and 39:4-49.1 (possession of marijuana in motor vehicle).
Ascoy was released pending a Superior Court date on January 28, 2011.
