Thomas Melillo, better known as the namesake of Tommy’s Joint, was approved by the Roselle Park Board Of Education (BOE) as a substitute teacher at the April 24th BOE meeting.
The popular restaurant at the corner of West Webster and Willow Avenue closed this past February unable to reach an agreement for a new lease at that location.
While looking for a new location, Tommy took the opportunity to substitute teach in the Roselle Park School District.
A post on Facebook posted by Beth Rosa Oliveira announced that Tommy is “trading in his chef’s knife for a ruler for now.”
The online statement added, “He is very much looking forward to seeing some of our former Tommy’s Joint customers and friends.”
Mr. Melillo, as he will be called in school, will be put on a rotation to fill in if an instructor is needed during the school year.
His start date was Wednesday, April 25th.
