On May 7, 2013, Roselle Park PBA President Michael Smith accepted a check for almost $3,000 from Knights Of Columbus Msr. Loreti Council #3240 at the Church of the Assumption for “Cops Kick In for Michael”. The check was a result of donations given at the Dinner in Honor of Michael Wielgus last month. Michael Jon Wielgus II, the son of Roselle Park Police Officer Michael Wielgus, lost his battle to cancer on March 28th and the Knights of Columbus held the dinner to honor him on April 28th.
Grand Knight John F. Kennedy, who delivered the check to officer Smith, said, “The Knights were grateful to be of service to the community at large.”
“I thank the Knights of Columbus for having the event for “Cops Kick In For Michael”, “PBA President Michael Smith stated, “I would also like to thank the community for showing their respect for the Wielgus family.”
John Kennedy added that he is proud to recognize the Roselle Park PBA for their help in serving the residents and he also wanted to thank Father James Spera for allowing use of Loreti Hall for the event.
Councilman-At-Large Carl Hokanson, who is a Knight and the great-uncle of Michael Jon Wielgus, added, “I also want to thank Father Jim for opening the church for the dinner, all the people who came for their support, my brother Knights for making this happen, and the residents for their donations.”
This recent dinner was a continuation of the charitable works that have been done by the Knights of Columbus Msr. Loreti Council which included Roselle Park’s first successful Trunk-Or-Treat, and shelter and meals that was provided to residents affected by Superstorm Sandy.
