On Tuesday, May 18, 2011 at approximately 10:51 a.m., Patrolmen Robert Sobocinski and Nicholas Vaughan were approached at the corner of Columbus Place and Westfield Avenue by a resident of Columbus Place who stated that at approximately 9:35 a.m., she observed a Hispanic male, approximately 5′ tall, clean shaven, wearing blue jeans and a black hooded jacket, wearing a black umbrella draped over his back, walk northbound on Columbus Place off of Westfield Avenue. She stated that the male was looking around which she stated appeared suspicious so she continued to watch what he was doing. She continued to observe him as he walked back and forth in front of a residence on Columbus Place before approaching the front door and grabbing the door handle. The male then proceeded to the side of the house and walked up an alleyway while looking in windows about half the distance of the house and came back out to the sidewalk. The male then walked to the corner of Westfield Avenue and Columbus Place and walked up to a residence on the 200 block of West Westfield Avenue and tried to open that door as well. After being unsuccessful, he stayed in the area for a few more minutes and looked into windows of several houses on the block. The male left the area via Westfield Avenue in an unknown direction.
