On December 18, 2010 at 10:23 p.m., Patrolman John Deegan responded to an apartment on the 100 block of Jerome Street (Sunrise Village) on a report of a burglary. The tenant stated that when he arrived home from work, he observed that his computer was missing from the kitchen counter. The computer is described as an HP laptop, black and silver in color. The laptop was valued at $700.
The victim then observed that his bedroom door was open and the door knob was missing from the outside. The victim stated he locked his bedroom door prior to leaving for work. The door knob was retrieved from the hallway floor and tagged as evidence. While inside his bedroom, the victim stated that the bottom drawer of his dresser was open, which contained two (2) bank envelopes which each contained $1,000 in $20 bills. The bank envelopes were left behind – however the $2,000.00 was stolen.
The screen on the kitchen window was cut. The victim explained that he always leaves this window unlocked. When he returned home from work, he observed no forced entry, and that he had to unlock the deadbolt and doorknob with his key to get in.
Detective Hussam Assad is investigating this case.
