On April 16, 2011 at 2:18 a.m., Patrolman Edward Nortrup was conducting stationary radar on the 200 block of East Westfield Avenue and observed a 1998 gold Nissan traveling at a high rate of speed with a brake light out. A motor vehicle stop on 1st Avenue at Chestnut Street in Roselle resulted in the discovery of two (2) partially smoked hand-rolled cigars “roaches” containing suspected marijuana; one (1) small clear plastic Ziplock bag containing suspected marijuana; and one (1) partially consumed bottle of Smirnoff 750 ml Raspberry Vodka.
The driver, Hector A. Ayala, age 19 of Linden was placed under arrest and charged with 2C:35-. 10(a)(4) (possession of marijuana); 2C:33-15(a) (possession of alcohol by persons under legal age); 39:4-98 (speeding); 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps); 39:4-49.1(CDS in a motor vehicle); and 39:4-51(b) (open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle). Mr. Ayala was released pending a Roselle Park Municipal Court date April 21, 2011.
