On Friday, February 1st, the Project Graduation Committee of the Roselle Park High School PTSA will be hosting a Murder Mystery Night fundraiser. The event will feature food, drink, and a little bit of ‘murder’ as actors with Murder Mystery Company are set to lead residents on an interactive murder mystery complete with costumes, clues, and a fake death. The fundraiser features a wedding theme, said event chair Joan Brennan, but an open mind is the only necessary item.
“It’s just a fun night and a chance to get together with the community and have a few laughs,” Brennan said, “We wanted to do something that would be a fun, relaxed thing.”
Tickets to the 7 p.m. fundraiser at the Union Elks Club located at 281 Chestnut Street in Union cost $50 per person. While guests are encouraged to register ahead of time, the group plans to sell tickets at the door the night of the event.
Project Graduation is a program offered by many high schools in which organized, adult-supervised and alcohol-free activities are offered as part of a post-graduation party, in lieu of student-run events with alcohol or drugs. The primary aims of Project Graduation activities are to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking, drugging and driving and to reduce the number of youth involved in alcohol and other drug-related highway crashes.
Across the country, Project Graduation and the chemical-free celebrations it inspired, are the new tradition for graduating seniors. Project Graduation has become much more than an event that occurs on graduation night. It is a community-wide planning process that strives to create a caring, supportive environment and more open communication between youths and adults.
“Anything we bring in is good, but this will be our big event this year definitely,” Brennan said. “We want people to have fun while they help us out and benefit the community. And of course, if people just want to watch and not actually be a part of the show, that’s fine, it’s all voluntary. Our focus is making sure everyone just has a fun, relaxing evening.”
