The contract to replace the decades-old boiler at Sherman School will be approved at the July 29th Board Of Education (BOE) meeting. The opening of the bids was conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, July 24th at the Roselle Park School District (RPSD)/Board Of Education (BOE) offices at 510 Chestnut Street.
Representatives of the three (3) contractors who bid on the project were present as Susan Guercio, the RPSD Business Administrator, opened the packets and publicly announced the dollar amounts of each bid.
Pennetta Industrial Automation (also known as Pennetta And Sons) from Jersey City came in with the lowest bid of $211,000 for the project. The second lowest bid was for $218,000 from C. J. Vanderbeck and Son out of Paterson. De Sesa Engineering was the third lowest with a lump sum bid of $233,800.
Although Pennetta Industrial had the lowest bid, they might be disqualified. It was noted that the bid specifications put out by the school district required one (1) original bid packet and two (2) photocopies – the packet by Pennetta Industrial provided only one original. If disqualified due to non-compliance of bid specifications, C. J. Vanderbeck and Son would be awarded the contract, unless they do not meet the requirements of the bid specs. In that case, it would then go to De Sesa Engineering. If all three (3) bids were rejected due to non-compliance, the district could put out the bid again.
The bids will be reviewed by the school district’s attorney and engineer to confirm that not only the original bid specs were adhered to, but also that the amendment and three (3) clarifications – which were released before the June 24th deadline – were also satisfied.
The time frame to have the new boiler completed is by December 15, 2014.
The next BOE meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. this coming Tuesday at the Roselle Park High School library.
