The Board Of Education (BOE) voted to approve Pomptonian Food Service from Fairfield, New Jersey as the school district’s Food Service Management Company (FSMC) for the 2014-15 school year. This is a change from previous years’ FSMC Nu-Way Concessionaires out of Kearny.
In comparing both contracts, Pomptonian Food Services has a lower administrative/management fee per meal of $0.0697 than Nu-Way, which charged almost 50% more ($0.1044). Additionally, the minimum return to the district is significantly higher at $36,096 as opposed to the $3,000 that was guaranteed by Nu-Way.
RPSD Business Administrator Sue Guercio remarked that in doing research on Pomptonian Food Service, she discovered that the company is in 80 other districts. She added, “I talked to several business administrators and they’re extremely pleased with the company.”
Pomptonian Food Service recently made news when its “Village Fresh” Lunch Program was introduced into Summit and Mendham schools this year. The program offers specialty menu items prepared fresh daily that incorporate Jersey Fresh and locally sourced produce when in season. Meal options include chopped salads, antibiotic and hormone-free chicken, all-natural beef, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as a choice of hormone-free milk.
The “Village Fresh” Lunch Program was not referenced at the meeting and does not appear to be available, at this time, for the Roselle Park School District.
