RPPD Investigate Report Of Man With A Weapon. No Suspect Found.

Last night, December 3rd, at approximately 8:26 p.m., Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) patrol units were dispatched to the area of the Roselle Park High School (RPHS) for a report of a male subject with a gun chasing after four juveniles.

According to the witnesses, when the man approached them, the four 17-year-old males ran into a resident’s backyard on West Lincoln Avenue near Larch Street.

Upon arrival of the police, the reporting party, a father of one of the juveniles, exited the backyard with the witnesses and stated that while the teenagers were standing in front of the high school, a black SUV entered the front parking lot of the high school and, almost immediately, a male party came from the area of the vehicle – although it was unclear if the male actually exited the vehicle. A male, unknown race, wearing all black, including a black ski mask, walked toward the three with what appeared to them to be a shotgun or rifle type weapon. Immediately after observing the male, the group ran away and contacted a parent who, in turn, contacted police. It was clear that the group of juveniles were in fear according to police.

RPPD requested assistance from other agencies in the search of the area for the suspect. Kenilworth Police, Union County Police, Union COunty k-9 unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in searching for the unknown male.

A thorough search of the High School grounds and interior of high school yielded negative results for any male matching the given description.

The investigation into this incident continues.
