RPPD Detective John Deegan Promoted To Sergeant

Detective John Deegan was promoted to the position of Sergeant at Thursday night’s Mayor & Council meeting. Having come to the borough in 2006, Sgt. Deegan worked in the Detective Bureau: General Investigations.

Accompanied by his family at the platform and fellow officers in the auditorium, Sgt. Deegan was given the oath of office for his new position.

Once official, RPPD Police Chief Paul Morrison remarked, “When John is given a case, he works it [and] he doesn’t give it up until he gets an answer on the job. He’s just a very well qualified individual in the law enforcement field. He’s well-respected here in Union County. He’s worked with several other agencies: state [and] local agencies. He has a wealth of knowledge and he’s going to do an excellent job for us out on patrol so John, I wish you many years of success.”

Sgt. Deegan spoke to those in attendance after being sworn in, “I’d like to thank Mayor Hokanson, members of council, Chief Morrison, and Captain McCaffery for this great opportunity. I’d like to thank my father for being my greatest mentor and always showing me the way in this career.I’d like to thank my wife and my family for their continued support. I’d like to thank all the officers that I’ve worked with – both active and retired – that helped me become the officer I am today. I can’t thank you enough and thank you for being here tonight. I look forward to working with you in this new position.”

Sgt. Deegan will have a salary of $110,804.30 with his position taking effect immediately.
