RPPD Arrest Seven During DWI Checkpoint

The Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) conducted a sobriety checkpoint Friday night December 21, 2012 in accordance with the 2013 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over New Jersey Highway Traffic Safety grant under the supervision of Chief of Police Paul Morrison.

12 Roselle Park police officers were assigned to the checkpoint that was located on West Westfield Avenue at Gordon Street. Over the course of several hours, 450 vehicles passed through the police safety zone with police arresting seven (7) motorists for driving while intoxicated (DWI). Police also impounded eight (8) vehicles for various offenses and issued over 30 traffic summonses.

This year alone, RPPD has charged 144 motorists with DWI. In an effort to decrease the number of DWI related crashes and fatalities, the Roselle Park Police Department, along with many other Union County law enforcement agencies, will continue to aggressively enforce DWI laws throughout the Holiday Season and into the New Year.
