The athletic fields at the Roselle Park High School (RPHS) were re-opened today. The fields had been closed for three weeks due to safety after one of the 24 light poles came down during at storm the first of April. A structural integrity survey was commissioned by the district and the firm hired, French & Parrello Associates submitted a report. Based on its findings, three (3) light poles were removed due to being severely damaged and deemed unsafe.
As of yet, there was no information provided as to the plan to address the three light poles or if any other poles will need to be addressed in the near future. Additionally, the proposed budget for any such measures have not been publicly discussed.
School Superintendent Pedro Garrido also addressed the district’s dealing with technical issues which delayed PARCC testing at the high school. He stated, “It was frustrating since scheduling takes so much time and effort. However, the high school staff did a great job in planning and rescheduling. As you know, the issue was not locally but with the Pearson testing site.”
Currently PARCC testing has been pushed back by one day due to the technical delay.
