RP Resident Arrested For Trespass In Bike Theft Attempt

On July 25, 2011 at approximately 6:37 p.m., Patrolmen Richard Hernandez and Kevin Florczak responded to the 600 block of Locust Street on a report of a male attempting to steal bicycles. Dispatch further advised that the suspect had fled the scene and was walking northbound on Locust Street towards West Webster Avenue. The suspect was described as a short male wearing a white t-shirt, a black & white baseball cap, black shorts, and black & white sneakers. Dispatch advised the victim was maintaining observation of the suspect who had turned onto West Webster Avenue and was now traveling westbound.

Patrolman Hernandez observed a Hispanic male who fit the description of the actor walking on West Webster ave towards Elm Street. The male was detained and identified as Christian A. Ortegon-Sanchez, age 24 of Roselle Park.

The victim and a witness stated that Mr. Ortegon-Sanchez entered the backyard of the victim and attempted to remove three (3) bicycles that were secured to a chain link fence. The victim exited his home and approached Mr. Ortegon-Sanchez at which point he pushed Mr. Ortegon-Sanchez away from the bicycles and the suspect fled on southbound on Locust Street.

Mr. Ortegon-Sanchez was placed under arrest and charged with 2C:18-3(b) (defiant trespass) and was released pending a Roselle Park Municipal Court date of August 4, 2011.
