Starting this week and continuing every Wednesday and Thursday, Union County will be conducting free child safety seat inspections from 7:30in the morning until 11 a.m. at the Garwood First Aid Squad located at 401 Second Avenue in Garwood.
According to national statistics, motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of deaths of children over the age of six months in the United States. With over 40 different types of child car seat on the market today, the proper use of child car seats is one of simplest and most effective methods available for protecting the lives of our children in the event of a motor vehicle crash.
The mayor types of car seats are:
- Newborn: infant carrier or rear-facing convertible – up to 2 years and 30 lbs
- Toddler: convertible seat (forward-facing) or forward-facing only seat – over 2 years and 30 lbs./use to maximum height/weight limit of seats
- Children: booster seat (highback, backless or integrated) – to 8 years old or 80 lbs., per New Jersey law.
This service is being provided by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, AAA Northeast-NJ Division, Garwood First Aid Squad, and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
No appointment is necessary.
