Resident Victim Of PSEG Cash Card Payment Scam

On Monday, February 27, 2012, a resident of Columbus Place reported that she received an unsolicited phone call from an individual identifying himself as an employee of PSEG. She reported that the man demanded an immediate payment in order to avoid a cancellation of service. The resident was directed by the caller to buy a “Moneypak” cash card and provide him with the access code. The resident followed the directions provided by the caller and gave him the code for the $200 cash card she purchased for the payment. A subsequent call to PSEG by the resident revealed that the caller was not a PSEG employee or an authorized representative.

The matter is now being investigated by Detective Richard Cocca.
