The Casano Community Center Art Gallery will be presenting a solo exhibit of photographs by Roselle Park resident Leona M. Seufert entitled “Reflections – Is it or isn’t it real?” which will be on display through December 13, 2013. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Wednesday December 4, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Leona M Seufert is a digital artist who has used Photoshop to create unusual and unique visual worlds. This exhibit is different, as all 13 of the pieces are not altered by Photoshop. Each image is exactly what her camera’s lens captured.
Seufert stated, “Looking for inspiration, I spent some time going through the vast number of photographs I have taken over the last few years. A certain type of image kept recurring that intrigued me. Direct from the camera, these photographs looked like they had been ‘Photoshopped’, only they weren’t! These were the raw images my lens had captured. Images of buildings reflected in buildings but distorted, 3-D depth effects of reflections in glass doors, and a host of other weird things.”
Inspired by this serendipity, she then started to not only look for these happenings, but to actually create them using only the camera’s viewfinder. Gallery exhibits netted a wide range of images as the reflective glass and lights on the hung artwork played all kinds of tricks depending upon the viewing angle. Many of these photographs were ‘staged’ compositions resulting in eerie effects.
The Casano Community Center and the Art Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the Center closing on Friday at 5 p.m.
