The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has authorized the Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) to once again begin the enforcement of the red light camera system located at the intersection of West Westfield Avenue and Locust Street.
Police Chief Paul Morrison confirmed what Detective Manuel Jimenez stated during a recent Mayor & Council meeting that RPPD was always in compliance with all NJDOT requirements regarding the lawful operation of red light traffic enforcement cameras. At that meeting, Detective Jimenez stated that the certification was completed but just needed to be submitted to NJDOT.
“These cameras were not installed for the purpose of raising revenue,” stated Police Chief Morrsion, “They were installed to help make the intersection a safer roadway for all motorists who travel on it. Since the red light cameras were installed in May of 2011, red light violations have decreased by 47 % at this intersection, I believe this program has been a success in making our roadways safer for the public here in Roselle Park.”
