Pompeii Pizzeria & Restaurant was recognized as Business Of The Month for May 2018 at last Thursday night’s municipal meeting.
Owner Luigi Skrelja, who already had a restaurant in Clark, opened up Pompeii in 2014 on Westfield Avenue and has been serving up pizza and other Italian favorites since then. Although he could not attend the ceremony because he was busy cooking orders, his son Michael was present to accept the Certificate of Recognition.
During the ceremony, Third Ward Councilman William Fahoury commented, “Luigi chose to come to Roselle Park . . . so that’s a great thing . . . . [that] they want to come to Roselle Park and stay in Roselle Park as opposed to staying in another town.”
The councilman then read the certificate:
“This award is being presented to Pompeii Pizzeria. In business for four years in Roselle Park, Pompeii Pizzeria has quickly become a staple for local residents and visitors. During this time, Pompeii has been proudly serving the borough with laughs and tasty pizza in equal measure by its owner Luigi Skrelja. In addition to being located in Roselle Park, Pompeii Pizzeria has made [itself] part of the community by generously donating to various school organizations, sports teams, and borough sponsored events such as the USO 5K Run/Walk. The borough of Roselle Park wishes to thank Pompeii Pizzeria for their continued investment and support of the local business community.”
Michael Skrelja spoke when receiving the certificate, “I just want to say thank you on my Father Luigi Skrelja’s behalf. He couldn’t be here right now because he spends more of his time in the pizzeria than outside of it. For that reason, I think I can say on his behalf that he and my whole family are very grateful to receive this award. He put a lot of work into the business and we’ve got a lot of a good response from the people of Roselle Park so thank you very much.”
When reaching Luigi after the meeting, he added, “We’re honored to receive this award on behalf of our customers. We look forward to continue providing them with the best service [and] meals possible.”
