On Monday at 7:53 a.m., Patrolmen John Fitzgerald and James Kompany responded to the 500 block of West Westfield Avenue on a report of a car burglary in progress in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. On scene, officers discovered Lester Ostrowski, age 47 from Roselle Park, standing outside of the 2006 GMC that was said to have been burglarized. The doors were ajar with items from the vehicle on the ground beside the vehicle. Mr. Ostrowski was found to be in possession of property from the vehicle along with prescription for drugs not prescribed to him. The interior of the vehicle also appeared to be damaged during the burglary. Mr. Ostrowski was placed under arrest, charged with Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Bail was set at $15,000 and he was transported to the Union County Jail.

On Saturday, at 5:21 p.m., Patrolman John Fitzgerald conducted a motor vehicle stop with a 2012 Mitsubishi for an equipment violation on East Westfield Avenue at Union Road. During the traffic stop a passenger, Melissa Pereira, age 20, from Roselle Park, was found to be in possession of a suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams) of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested, charged with possession of CDS, and drug paraphernalia, served with a summons and released with a court date. The driver of the vehicle, Leongrabi Almoneda, age 20 from Roselle Park was issued a motor vehicle summons for the equipment violation.

At 1:49 p.m., Patrolman Brian Swick responded to the 300 block of West Clay Avenue to a local business on a report of a suspicious male who attempted to enter the building. On scene, officers located Kingsley Penianah, age 54, from Irvington standing outside of that location. Officers stated that Mr. Penianah appeared to be under the influence of liquor and/or drugs at the time. In an attempt to produce identification, Mr. Penianah pulled from his pocket a small bag of a suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams of marijuana) along with his wallet. It was also discovered the he drove his motor vehicle – a 1996 Toyota – to the location and it was parked illegally on the street blocking the driveway of the business. He was subsequently arrested, charged with DWI, and possession of CDS. He was released pending an appearance at municipal court.

At 11:08 p.m., Patrolman William Hannon conducted a motor vehicle stop on West Westfield Avenue at Seaton Avenue on a 2000 Volvo for equipment violations. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ervin J. Broderick, age 27, from Roselle. During the stop, Mr. Broderick was found to be in possession of a suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance (oxycodone) and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to Headquarters where he was being processed. At that time, officers discovered that Broderick was concealing a small plastic bag of suspected CDS marijuana in his sock. He was charged with two (2) counts of Possession of CDS, drug paraphernalia, and failure to turn over CDS, along with motor vehicle citations. He was released with a future court date.
