At 12:45 a.m., Patrolman Joshua Medrano responded to a noise complaint at an apartment building on West Sumner Avenue. A caller reported loud music coming from a particular apartment. While standing outside the apartment where the loud music was coming from, Medrano detected the odor of burnt marijuana. He knocked and announced his presence. A male later identified as Jamie Ortiz, 18 of Union Township, opened the door to speak to the officer. As Patrolman Medrano was speaking to Ortiz he noticed a smoke flowing from the apartment. He soon found Ortiz in possession of two large zip lock bags containing suspected marijuana in his pants pocket. Brian Blount, 27, a resident of the apartment then exited the door. Blount was also found in possession of suspected marijuana. A metal grinder and a digital scale both used to process were also located in their possession. Both were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and later released.

At 2:15 p.m., a 1989 Dodge pickup was observed running a red light on West Westfield Avenue by Patrolman Nicholas Vaughan. Vaughan stopped the truck on the 200 block of West Webster Avenue. The driver, Hamilton Webster, 27 of Garwood, stated he was driving home from Elizabeth, where he went to purchase single cigarettes. A further roadside investigation, revealed that Webster was in possession of four (4) folds of suspected heroin. His passenger, Jessica Morris, age 19 of Clark, was found in possession of a thin pipe commonly used to ingest crack cocaine. Both were arrested and later released.

Roselle Park Police responded to a report of an assault in progress at a real estate office located on East Westfield Avenue. Upon arrival, they found an employee suffering from minor abrasions. The employee reported that the male suspect entered the office and yelled at her, struck her with his fist, then fled the scene on foot. The suspect was found walking on Galloping Hill Road by Patrolman Kostantinos Vathianakis. Angel M. Tavarez Jr, age 20 of Brooklyn, was later charged with Assault, Harassment, Possession of marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

At 2:52 p.m., a 1999 Chevrolet was stopped for traffic violations on West Westfield Avenue by Patrolmen Kevin Florczak and Kostantinos Vathianakis. During the roadside investigation, the passenger, Rebecca Shafer, 19 of Cranford, was found in possession of suspected marijuana. She had a bag hidden inside her bra. The driver, Christian B. Breskin, 20 of Cranford, told then stated that he originally possessed the marijuana but gave it to Shafer as he was being pulled over. At headquarters, a police matron located another bag of suspected marijuana in Shafer’s bra. Both were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Failure to Give CDS to Police. Both were later released.
At 10: 30 p.m., Patrolman Richard Gaylord stopped a 2000 Chevrolet for traffic violations on Galloping Hill Road. A rear seat passenger, Trevor Dagostino, 18 of Cranford, was found in possession of suspected marijuana. According to police, Dagostino also admitted that he ate another baggie of marijuana as the car was being stopped. Dagostino was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Tampering with Evidence.
