At 2 a.m., Patrolman Alexander Lanza was conducting property checks of businesses on Williams Street when he was approached by an intoxicated male. The individual, Thomas C. Basile, 32-years-old of Roselle Park, reportedly yelled profanities at the officer and threatened to assault him. Basile refused several requests to quiet down. He was then arrested for Disorderly Conduct. Basile’s rowdy behavior continued at headquarters, according to police, where he threatened Lanza again and then threatened to harass and assault Sergeant David Pitts. Basile was charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of harassment.

At 1:50 a.m., Natasha R. Tanzi, 18, of Edison was stopped by Sergeant Dominick Frino in a 1994 Toyota on Walnut Street. The Toyota was observed driving on a closed roadway. Sergeant Frino detected the odor of marijuana as he approached the car. Tanzi was found in possession of a cigar containing suspected marijuana. She was charged with possession of CDS/marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 10 a.m., Patrolman Brian Swick stopped a 1997 Chevrolet for traffic violations on Walnut Street. According to the report, the driver, Desirea G. Ranking, 43, of Linden initially lied to Patrolman Swick by stating her name was Desirea Small. Swick was unable to find a license for her and soon realized “Small” was Rankins. She was found to have warrants from Union County, Roselle and Elizabeth. Rankins was placed under arrest then found to be in possession of several empty suspected Heroin bags. She was charged with hindering apprehension and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 6:30 a.m., Patrolman Brian Swick responded to the attempted theft of a 2004 Ford in the parking lot of Sunrise Village apartments. The owner parked the car at 10 p.m. and reportedly found it damaged at 6:30 a.m. the next morning. A window was broken and he stated the car was moved a few feet from where he parked it. No damage was observed to the steering column. Detective Hussam Assad is investigating.
At 11:15 p.m., Patrolman Joshua Medrano while on DWI patrol stopped a 1995 Dodge Pickup for traffic violations including Speeding, Careless driving and Failure to maintain a lane on Chestnut Street at Westfield Avenue. The driver, Carlos J. Donoso, 35, of Elizabeth, NJ was reportedly found to be intoxicated. He was also found to be in possession of a bag of suspected cocaine. Donoso was charged with DWI, possession of cocaine, and several traffic violations. He was transported to the Union County Jail since he was unable to post bail in amount of $10,000.

On Thanksgiving morning at 5:25 a.m., Roselle Park Police investigated two (2) suspicious males and disrupted a theft in progress. Police on patrol noticed two men acting suspiciously near the front door of a convenience store located on the 200 block of East Westfield Avenue. Patrolmen Dean Khallaf and John Deegan reportedly found that the men were in the process of stealing bundles of newspapers from the business. Newspapers belonging to the business were found in the 2003 Toyota Rav4 the men drove to the scene. The Toyota was then found to be reported stolen out of Hampton Borough in Hunterdon County. Jesse Jorgenson, 34, of Hampton and Rahmar White, 40, of Newark were arrested and charged with theft. Jorgenson was also charged with the unlawful taking of a means of conveyance and possession of a hypodermic syringe. Jorgenson was lodged into the Union County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. White was released pending an appearance in the Roselle Park Municipal Court.
At 11:53 p.m., Patrolman Richard Gaylord was conducting a traffic stop on Chestnut Street at Charles Street when people outside Mulligans’s Bar reportedly started harassing him. The bar patrons were yelling profanities at him and conducting themselves in a disorderly manner. Sergeant David Pitts arrived on scene and arrested Ian Cordova, 22, of Roselle Park for disorderly conduct and obstruction for loudly protesting and interfering in the arrest of another individual. Patrolman Gaylord then arrested Patrick McGee, 22, of Roselle Park for disorderly conduct after he threatened officers and was observed shouting profanities.

At 9 a.m., Patrolman Mitchell White stopped a 2003 Nissan for traffic violations on East Westfield Avenue. During the roadside investigation, the passenger, Jose D. Mena Canela, 41, of Perth Amboy reportedly presented a fraudulent NJ Driver’s license as his legal identification. Patrolman White recognized the fraudulent document and arrested Canela. Canela was transported to the Union County Jail on a US Department of Homeland Security detainer / warrant.
At 10:47 a.m.,Roselle Park Police responded to a report of a theft at Hot Bagels and Deli on East Westfield Avenue. The owner/victim reported that a male patron paid for his food with a counterfeit $10 bill. When confronted, the male ran outside and drove away in a black SUV. Detective Richard Cocca is investigating the matter.
At 11:10 p.m., Patrolman Joshua Medrano while on DWI patrol observed a red 1995 Ford Expedition driving erratically on Locust Street near West Grant Avenue. Patrolman Medrano stopped the vehicle nearby and quickly detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle, Eliseo Lainez, 23, and Elias Lainez, 22, both of Elizabeth were found in possession of approximately two ounces of suspected marijuana. Both were charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession within a school zone, possession of marijuana, and failure to give CDS to Police in addition to traffic violations. Both were lodged into the Union County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
