May 14, 2013

At 8:53 p.m., Patrolman John Deegan arrested William R Jones, 51 of Linden, on a $500 South Plainfield warrant. Jones was released after posting bail.

May 15, 2013

Patrolman John Deegan arrested two Cranford men during a traffic stop on Westfield Avenue. Steven C. Jackson and Shi L. Xu, both 22 years of age, were found in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Reportedly, Xu was found with a number of Oxycodone pills hidden in his sock for which Xu did not possess a valid prescription for the controlled substance. Jackson was found holding a single bag of suspected marijuana. Both were released with summons to appear in Union County Superior Court.

May 16, 2013

At 12:13 a.m., patrolman Angelo Marino arrested Cameron D. Hackett, 20 of Piscataway, during a traffic stop on Roosevelt Street. Hackett was allegedly found in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance / Adderrall without a valid prescription and drug paraphernalia. He was released on a summons to appear in Union County Superior Court.

At 10:48 a.m., patrolman James Kompany arrested Albert Vazquez, 42 of Roselle Park, for Simple Assault. Vazquez was arrested on the 100 block of East Westfield Avenue after police responded to a report of a dispute.

At 6:52 p.m., Patrolman Edward Nortrup arrested 20-year-old Roselle resident Anthony L. Brown during a traffic stop turned narcotic investigation on West Clay Avenue. Brown and a 17-year-old Roselle resident were stopped and were reportedly found to have consumed a Controlled Dangerous Substance earlier in the day. The juvenile was released to his mother at the scene. Brown was arrested on a $850 Roselle warrant. Brown was released into custody of the Roselle Police Department.

At 7:37 p.m., Patrolman Nicholas Vaughan arrested William B. Thomas, 22 of Elizabeth, NJ during a traffic stop on West Westfield Avenue for possession of marijuana.

At 9:56 p.m., patrolman John Deegan arrested Alonso Gutierrez, 21 of Vauxhall, during a police response to the 100 block of West Grant Avenue. Gutierrez was found in possession of a glass pipe commonly used to ingest a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

May 17, 2013

Roselle Park Police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the Woodside Gardens apartment complex. The caller reported drug activity near a particular apartment in the ‘B’ building. Police located the apartment and interviewed the occupants. During the investigation, police recovered suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the apartment. Patrolman Harold Breuninger arrested Matthew Timko, 24, a resident of the apartment, Daniel J. Encarnacion, 23 of Elizabeth, and Jonathan N. Rodriguez, 21, of Roselle Park. All were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Patrolman Mitchell White arrested Jasmine Vargas, 21 of Roselle Park, during a traffic stop on Linden Road on a $500 Linden warrant.

May 19, 2013

At 11:51 a.m., Patrolman John Fitzgerald arrested four (4) occupants of a vehicle stopped on West Grant Avenue. All were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police reportedly found a soda can with a hollow insert containing two (2) bags of suspected marijuana as well as a cigar filled with suspected marijuana. Arrested were 22-year-old Bradely Noel and 25-year-old Anthony Brown. Also charged were a 17-year-old female and a 16-year-old male – all are from Roselle Park.

At 7:02 p.m., Gustavo Figueroa, 23 of Elizabeth, was arrested after police responded to a suspicious person call on east Grant Avenue. The caller reported that the male – unknown to her – was seated on her front porch. The male, Figueroa, stated he was tired of walking and sat down to rest. Figueroa was found to have warrants issued from Elizabeth Municipal Court. He was placed under arrest and removed from the scene.

May 20, 2013

At 8:41 p.m., Roselle Park Police were notified by a 9-1-1 caller that a shoplifter was being chased by an employee of the Family Dollar store on East Westfield Avenue. Patrolman Richard Gaylord responded to the area and observed the store employee in a confrontation with the suspect in front of 120 Chestnut Street. Gaylord approached the two and heard the employee demanding that the suspect return the stolen goods. The suspect, later identified as Tayzhon Smallwood-Wallace, 19 of Elizabeth, became combative once the officer started asking him questions. Wallace then violently resisted Gaylord’s efforts to arrest him by striking him in the chest. Gaylord, with the assistance of Patrolman Gregory Polakoski, were able to take Wallace into custody after a brief struggle.

While at police headquarters, Wallace continued his violent behavior and violently resisted the officer’s efforts to process him. Wallace was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on Police, Resisting Arrest, and Shoplifting. He was later transferred to the Union Count Jail in lieu of $45,000 bail.

Police returned the stolen property consisting of six (6) boxes of candy to the store employee. Polakoski was treated and released from Overlook Hospital for an injured finger. Gaylord suffered a minor leg injury. The suspect, Wallace, was not injured during the arrest.
