Police Activity Report (June 8 – 14, 2014)

On Sunday at 01:05 a.m., Patrolman Dean Khallaf conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2013 Kia for an equipment violation on West Westfield Avenue at Locust Street. During the stop, the driver, Shakira Bethea, age 27 from Edison was found to be in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams) of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was also discovered to have an outstanding warrant out of Sayreville Municipal Court for $139. Ms Bethea was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS and Drug Paraphernalia. After posting bail, she was released with a court date.

June 11, 2014

On Wednesday at 4:34 p.m., Patrolman James Kompany responded to 7 East Westfield Avenue (Family Dollar) on a report of a shoplifting. It was reported to Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) that a male had committed the shoplifting by taking approximately $100 worth of merchandise and fled on foot out of the store through a rear door. Following a brief search of the area, Patrolman Kompany located and arrested Robert D. Wright, age 41 from Newark, on Chestnut Street at East Grant Avenue where he was waiting for the bus. The merchandise that was taken – 23 double-packs of Degree and Secret deodorant – were recovered in a plastic shopping bag propped up against a garbage can at the bus stop. Mr. Wright was charged with shoplifting and was also found to be wanted out of Newark for Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, Terroristic tThreats as well as two other unrelated shoplifting charges. Mr. Wright was lodged in the Union County Jail on $4,000 bail.

On Saturday at 3:48 p.m., Patrolman Angelo Marino conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 Honda for an equipment violation on Galloping Hill Road at East Colfax Avenue. During the traffic stop, the passenger reportedly gave police a false name, Marcus Torres. After a brief investigation, the male was identified as Marcus M. Flores, age 22 from Linden, who was found to be in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams) of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and charged with Hindering, Possession of CDS, and Failure to Turn over CDS to Police. He was served with a summons and released with a court date. The driver, age 17 from Elizabeth, was issued two (2) motor vehicle summonses and released from the scene.
