Police Activity Report (June 27 – July 1, 2014)

June 27, 2014

At 1:46 p.m., Patrolman Brian Swick conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2003 Acura for an equipment violation on West Westfield Avenue at Hawthorne Street. Following a roadside investigation involving the driver, Marquis Salazar, age 26 from Middlesex, Mr. Salazar was found to be in possession of a suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams of marijuana) and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was served with a summons and released with a court date.

June 29, 2014

On Sunday at 11:04 a.m., Patrolman Angelo Marino conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2003 Toyota for a moving violation on the 100 block of Valley Road. During the stop, the driver – Michael Cruz, age 19 from Belleville – reportedly identified himself initially to police as Michael Roman. A check of the driver revealed his true identity as well as two (2) outstanding warrants for his arrest from Belleville and Bloomfield Municipal Court. During the investigation, Mr. Cruz was found to be in Possession of a  suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams of marijuana) and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS and Hindering his Apprehension, along with traffic summonses. He was ultimately turned over to Belleville Police on the no bail warrant.

July 1, 2014

Patrolmen John Deegan, Dean Khallaf and Matthew Hopkins responded to an apartment complex on Chestnut Street after developing a lead regarding a wanted fugitive from Pennsylvania who was temporarily staying at that location. The individual, Ricardo Maldonado, age 27 from Roselle Park, was located and taken into custody without incident. He was charged as a Fugitive From Justice for the charge of Theft by Deception and lodged into the Union County Jail awaiting extradition to Monroe County Court House in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
