Patrolman William Hannon conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2007 Dodge for equipment violations on West Westfield Avenue at Faitoute Avenue. Following a roadside investigation, the driver, Maurfranc Hunt, age 45 from Newark, was found to be in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams) of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and charged with possession of CDS. He was served with a summons and released with a court date.

At 12:06 a.m., Patrolman Dean Khallaf conducted a motor vehicle stop on the 500 block of West Westfield Avenue on a 2002 Chevy after a license plate inquiry indicated the registered owner’s driving privileges were currently suspended. During the stop and after a brief investigation, the driver, John W. Crews III, age 40 from Newark and the passenger, Angel Crews, age 29 from Roselle were found to be in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (under 50 grams of suspected marijuana) and drug paraphernalia. Both were arrested and charged with possession of CDS, drug paraphernalia, and failure to turn over CDS. Bail set at $1,500. John W. Crews III was also found to have several outstanding warrants out of Elizabeth, Rahway, Newark, and Union Municipal Courts. Bail was satisfied and both were released with a court date.
At 3:42 p.m., Patrolman William Hannon conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 Acura for equipment violations on the West Grant Avenue at Chestnut Street. During the stop, the passenger, Natasha Wiggins, age 20 from Roselle reportedly identified herself initially to police as Moriah Gomez. A check of the passenger revealed her true identity as well as three (3) outstanding warrants for her arrest from Roselle and Linden Municipal Courts. She was also found to be in possession of (under 50 grams) of CDS suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. During the investigation, the driver, Grady C. Julius, was found to be in possession of a weapon (handgun), a suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and counterfeit DVDs. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of CDS, drug paraphernalia, and trademark counterfeiting. Bail was set at $10,000. Wiggins was also arrested and charged with hindering her apprehension, possession of CDS, and drug paraphernalia. Bail set at $2,500. Both were unable to post bail and committed to the Union County Jail in Elizabeth.

At 6:55 p.m., Patrolman John Deegan responded to 137 Chestnut Street (World of Liquor) on a report of a shoplifter who was being detained inside the store by store workers. John Clark, age 48, from Jersey City was taken into custody by police for shoplifting over $250 worth of liquor that was found in his possession. Clark was also found to have three (3) outstanding warrants out of Lawrence Township, Greenwich Township, and Wayne Township. Bail was set at $5,000 and he was lodged into the Union County Jail.
