At 10:15 p.m., Patrolman Matthew Hopkins conducted a motor vehicle stop on the 400 block of East Westfield Avenue on a 2001 Mercedes Benz after reportedly learning that the registered owner has active warrants for his arrest and is a suspended driver. The driver, Kaystein Charles, age 40, from Elizabeth initially identified himself to police as “Alfranc Jean” but later admitted that he was lying about his name. Charles was arrested for hindering his own apprehension and contempt of court on both Jersey City and North Brunswick Municipal court warrants, bail totaling $450. He was issued summonses and released on bail.

On Saturday at 4:21 p.m., Patrolman Alexander Lanza conducted a motor vehicle stop with a 2008 Chevy for equipment violations on 100 block of East Colfax Avenue. The passenger, Benjamin Casta, age 37, from Jersey City was found to have an outstanding warrant in the amount of $100 out of Jersey City Municipal Court. Casta was arrested on the warrant and released on bail.

At 8:44 p.m., Sgt. David Pitts conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2007 Pontiac for an equipment violation on the 300 block of East Westfield Avenue. The driver, Mathew Jackson, age 20, from Old Bridge was subsequently found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, under 50 grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia. He was served with summonses and released with a court date.

At 12:36 p.m., Patrolmen Brian Macdonald and John Fitzgerald responded to Franklin Place on a report of a large fight. Upon arrival, officers located Jason Apple along with another male standing in the middle of street arguing over the Super Bowl results. Jason Apple, age 39 from Belleville was found to have an outstanding warrant from Woodbridge Municipal court in the amount of $150 and arrested for same. He was released on bail with a court date.
