Police Activity Report (December 3 – 9, 2012)

December 3, 2012

At 10:52 a.m., Tara Schultz, 22, of Cranford was arrested at Essex County Jail by Patrolman John Fitzgerald on a $750 Roselle Park Municipal Court warrant. Schultz was later transferred to the Union County Jail.

At 11:09 p.m., Theodore Medina, 20, of Perth Amboy was arrested by Patrolman Kostantinos Vathianakis for Criminal Mischief. Reportedly Medina was traveling through Roselle Park when he became embroiled in a dispute with a friend in his vehicle. Medina stopped his car on Westfield Avenue at Walnut Street, where both parties exited the car and argued with each other. A resident in the area notified police about the dispute. Upon arrival at the scene, police stated that they learned that Medina temporarily restrained his friend then broke the friend’s iPhone. Medina was processed at RPPD then released.

December 4, 2012

At 8:04 p.m., Hugues J. Pamphile, 20, Roselle, was arrested by Patrolman Joshua Medrano during a traffic stop on Locust Street. Pamphile was reportedly found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 9:32 p.m., Wade C. Foster Jr, 24, Hillside was arrested by Patrolman Jeffrey Rapach during a traffic stop on Sherman Avenue. Foster was found in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Foster was also charged with tampering with evidence after he was observed – according to the police report – eating and swallowing a small amount of suspected marijuana.

December 7, 2012

Daniel Okai, 19, of Newark was arrested on December 7th at 11:18 p.m. for possession of suspected marijuana and underage possession of alcohol by Patrolman Joshua Medrano.

December 8, 2012

Mariojohn Cassitta, 29, of Roselle Park and Christopher Robinson, 46, of Roselle were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop by Patrolman Mitchell White. Cassitta was turned over to Westfield Police on outstanding warrants.

Harold Chavez, 41, with addresses in Roselle Park and Elizabeth, was arrested by Patrolman Alexander Lanza on Saturday for Hindering Apprehension and Contempt of Court. Lanza was on patrol on the 400 block of Maplewood Avenue when he observed an occupied parked vehicle. He stopped to render aid but was told by the driver ‘everything was OK’. As he was about to leave, the passenger stated she needed the officer’s help getting her car back. She explained that several months ago she allowed a friend, Chavez, to borrow her 1997 Honda Accord. Since then, he refused to return her vehicle. She directed Lanza to a nearby residence, where Chavez and the vehicle were located. Chavez was immediately uncooperative and provided false information to Lanza about his identity, according to police. Chavez was found to have several aliases including Harold Chaves, Eduardo Huertas, Eduardo Velez and Felix Pineda. Chavez was found to have warrants from Elizabeth, Woodbridge, Newark and the Union County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle was returned to the complainant while Chavez was released to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

December 9, 2012

Phillip M. Szabo, 34, of Linden was arrested while officers were investigating a noise complaint at Colfax Manor at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. Patrolman Lanza charged Szabo with possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Austin Kellogg IV, 34, of Roselle Park was arrested by Patrolman Lanza on outstanding warrants from Jersey City and Bound Brook. He was also issued an Ordinance violation for possessing an open container of alcohol in public.

On Sunday morning, December 9, 2012, Patrolman Matthew Hopkins conducted a traffic stop on West Westfield Avenue of a black 2005 Audi A6 for various traffic violations. The driver, Marcer Mangual, 36, of Belleville, was found trying to conceal a replica handgun beneath the driver’s floor mat, according to police. A further search revealed another replica handgun, 10 packages of suspected crack cocaine hidden in the center console, and a white plastic Halloween mask. Both of the replica handguns had their orange safety tips removed. Mangual is currently incarcerated in the Union County Jail on $60,000 bail. The Roselle Park Police Department is assisting local law enforcement agencies in trying to determine if Mangual is a suspect in recent armed robberies.
