Police Activity Report (August 20 – 31, 2013)

August 20, 2013

Patrolman Mitchell White was working an off-duty traffic detail when he was approached by a motorist needing assistance. The motorist, Matthew W. Clarke, age 30 of Toms River, asked for assistance in moving his vehicle from the construction zone. Patrolman White provided the necessary information and watched as Clarke walked from the area. Clarke removed his hand from his pants pocket as he walked away an inadvertently dropped a clear glass container usually used to ingest marijuana. White recovered the evidence and took Clarke into custody. Clarke was charged with possession of marijuana and failure to give CDS to the police. He was released on summons pending an appearance in Roselle Park Municipal Court.

August 21, 2013

Cory M. Marcantonio, 20 of Garwood, arrested on $500 Garwood warrant by Patrolman White.

Ibn K. Patterson, 21 of Kinnelon, was arrested for possession of marijuana by Patrolman Khallaf.

Shamar L. Rembert, 23 of Elizabeth, was arrested on a $77 Elizabeth warrant by Patrolman Macdonald.

Roselle Park Police responded to a break-in at a medical office on the 200 block of Chestnut Street. The owner reported that between 7:30 p.m. on August 20th and 9 a.m. on Auguste 21st, unknown actor(s) illegally entered his office and stole an undetermined amount of cash. No damage was observed within the office. Detective Harms is investigating.

August 22, 2013

Oscar A. Sotelo, 21 of Linden, was arrested for possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and failure to give CDS to police by Patrolman Macdonald.

Karen A. Padden, 48 of Linden, was arrested on a $991 Roselle Park warrant by Patrolman Khallaf.

August 23, 2013

A resident of the 300 block of East Westfield Avenue reported suspicious activity at a nearby vacant house. Police responded and located Stephen Itzkowitz, 39 of Elizabeth. Patrolman Fitzgerald located Itzkowitz walking from the home reportedly in possession of a Realtor key that was stolen from a lockbox at the house. A further search revealed him to be in possession of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, a syringe, and burglar tools. A short while later, Roman T. Camacho, age 36 from Elizabeth, walked onto the scene. Camacho, who police connected to Itzkowitz, was also found in possession of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia and a syringe. RPPD detectives responded and investigated the matter as an attempted burglary. Both were committed to the Union County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

August 24, 2013

Donna M. Strothers, 47 of Linden, was arrested on a $750 Piscataway warrant by Patrolman White.

Ricardo D. Vite-Ramirez, 24 of Roselle Park, was arrested by Detective Harms after police responded to a disturbance on Walnut Street. Ramirez was charged with simple assault and bail was set at $3.000.

August 29, 2013

Roselle Park Police responded to a residential alarm on Charles Street. While police were inspecting the home, a neighbor approached and reported a suspicious incident. She reported that she thought someone may have broken into her home. She reportedly found fresh damage on the rear door frame and found her door unlocked. Nothing was found missing or stolen from the home. The matter is being investigated by Detective Robert Harms.

John T. Meek, 22 of Roselle Park, was arrested by Patrolman Mitchell White at the Clark, NJ Police Department. Meek had a $2,000 Roselle Park warrant in addition to warrants from Cranford and Garwood totalling $1,821. Meek was lodged into the Union County Jail.

August 30, 2013

Henry B. Velastegui, 20 of Union, was arrested by Patrolman Matthew Hopkins during a traffic stop on Westfield Avenue. Velastegui had a Cranford warrant in amount of $285. Velastegui was released after posting bail.

Jospeh Eliscar, 35 of Linden, was arrested by Patrolman Brian Macdonald during a traffic stop on Walnut Street. Eliscar had a $150 warrant from Roselle. Eliscar was released after posting bail.

Jesse J. Perez, 21 of Fords, was arrested for possession of marijuana by Sgt. Dominick Frino during a traffic stop on Chiego Place.

Michael R. Herrera, 34 of Elizabeth, was arrested by Patrolman Dean Khallaf on a warrant issued by the Union County Sheriff’s Department. Herrera was unable to post and was later released into custody of the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

August 31, 2013

Luis E. Galindo, 20 of Roselle Park, was arrested by Patrolman White after police responded to a report of a dispute on Jerome Street. An individual, who was exhibiting signs of injuries, reported he was assaulted by Galindo. Galindo was released after posting bail.
