Police Activity Report (April 24 – 28, 2013)

April 24, 2013

Jeffrey A. Hulse Jr., 23 of Roselle, was arrested by Detective Robert Harms after a brief investigation of a police pursuit from April 11th. On the 11th, Patrolman Brian Swick attempted to stop a green Honda Civic on the 200 block of Chestnut Street for several traffic violations. The Honda initially pulled to the roadside then accelerated into on coming traffic narrowly missing several vehicles. Patrolman Swick attempted to stop the vehicle but his efforts were ignored. The Honda traveled north on Chestnut Street into Union, where the pursuit was terminated.

Detective Robert Harms was then assigned to investigate the matter. Harms located and impounded the vehicle from Mravlag Manor in Elizabeth, NJ. An inspection of the vehicle and a NJ Motor Vehicle Commission records check directed Detective Harms to Jeffrey Hulse. Hulse, with a suspended NJ driver’s license, was arrested at a relative’s home in Roselle early Wednesday morning. Hulse was charged with criminal eluding and several traffic offenses and was lodged into the Union County Jail on a $25,000 bail.

April 25, 2013

Deirdre A. Picciano, 22 of Roselle Park, was arrested by Patrolman Mitchell White during a traffic stop on West Colfax Avenue. Picciano was found in possession of 11 small plastic bags containing suspected heroin residue and a cut plastic straw. Picciano was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Daniel Lopez, 22 of Youngstown, Ohio was arrested at the Fair Lawn Police Department by Patrolman Matthew Hopkins on a warrant issued by the Roselle Park Municipal Court. Lopez was later transferred to the Union County Jail since he was unable to post $750 bail.

Joseph Fallucca, 28, of Elizabeth, was arrested during a traffic stop on Hawthorne Street by Patrolman Dean Khallaf. Fallucca had a warrant from the Roselle Municipal Court. He was released after posting bail.

April 26, 2013

Christopher D. Clemente, 22, of Plainfield, was arrested by Patrolman Mitchell White during a traffics stop on East Westfield Avenue. Clemente initially identified himself as Christopher Mejia to officer White. White was able to confirm Clemente’s true identity by comparing records of the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission. Clemente was found to have a suspended driver’s license and a traffic warrant from Cranford Municipal Court in amount of $250. Clemente was charged with Hindering Apprehension and transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of an additional $2,500.

At 9:30 a.m., Patrolman John Fitzgerald arrested a driver during a traffic stop on Galloping Hill Road. The driver stated he forgot his license at home then identified himself as Richard Tiru of Linden, NJ. While speaking to “Tiru”, Fitzgerald detected the odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. As part of the on scene investigation, Fitzgerald asked “Tiru” to sign a police document. “Tiru” complied with the request but promptly signed what turned out to be his true name, Kyle C. Gonzalez. When asked why he signed that name, “Tiru” was speechless. A quick inquiry into the name confirmed that “Tiru” was in fact Gonzalez. Gonzalez was found to have a suspended NJ driver’s license and two traffic warrants totaling $279 from East Hanover and Roseland.

Kyle C. Gonzalez, 21, of Elizabeth, NJ was charged with Hindering Apprehension with bail was set at $2,500. He was charged with several traffic offenses as well. Gonzalez was released after posting bail in full.

April 27, 2013

Roselle Park Police responded to a restaurant located on the 100 block of East Westfield Avenue for a report of a burglary and theft. The crime took place between 10 p.m. on Friday April 26th and 10 a.m. Saturday April 27th. The suspect forced entry through a side door and stole an undetermined amount of cash. The matter is being investigated by Detective Robert Harms.

Roberto Vargas Jr, 23, of Roselle, was arrested by Patrolman Nicholas Vaughan during a traffics top on West Westfield Avenue. Vargas was found to have a warrant from Woodbridge Township. Vargas was released after posting bail.

Terrence Miller, 26, of East Orange, was arrested by Patrolman Angelo Marino during a traffic stop on East Westfield Avenue. Miller was released after posting $1,500 bail to the East Orange and Jersey City Municipal Courts.

April 28, 2013

Darryl J. Mitchell, 27, of Elizabeth, was arrested by Patrolman Alexander Lanza during a traffic stop on Sheridan Avenue. Mitchell was found to be a “Wanted Person” with warrants issued by Essex and Middlesex Counties. Mitchell was released into the custody of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department without incident.

Jordan Oviedo, 18, of Elizabeth, was arrested by Patrolman Angelo Marino during a traffic stop on Charles Street. Oviedo was found in possession of suspected marijuana and a metal grinder. He was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Salvatore J. Tortorello, 24, of Garwood, was arrested by Patrolman Nicholas Vaughan during a traffic stop on Westfield Avenue. Tortorello was found in possession of several Percocets and a straw containing a powdery substance. Tortorello was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

William V. Desposito, 29, of Roselle Park, was arrested by Patrolman Alexander Lanza during a welfare check on Chestnut Street. Lanza was on patrol when he observed Desposito possibly in need of medical attention. During his initial contact with him, Desposito was found to be in possession of a hypodermic syringe. A further search revealed Desposito was in possession of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. Desposito was also found to have $1,215 in criminal warrants from Middlesex Borough and Union Township. Desposito was transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of an additional $1,500 bail.
