At approximately 9:53 p.m., Patrolman Richard Gaylord conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 1998 Honda on West Grant Avenue at Chestnut Street for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle, William G. Lawrence, age 23 from Somerset, was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. Mr. Lawrence was released on a summons.

At approximately 2:05 p.m., Patrolman William Hannon conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 Hyundai on West Westfield Avenue at Gordon Street for an equipment violation. The front passenger of the vehicle, John Kessler, age 21 of North Brunswick, was arrested for possession of suspected synthetic cannabinoid and drug paraphernalia. He was subsequently charged with possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernali,a and failure to turn over CDS to police. Mr. Kessler was released on a summons with a Union County Superior Court date. The driver of the vehicle was issued motor vehicle summonses on scene.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., Patrolman Richard Gaylord conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 1994 Toyota on West Westfield Avenue at Grove Street for an equipment violation. The passenger of the vehicle, Alexis D. Smith, age 23 from Newark, was found to have three outstanding traffic warrants for her arrest from Hazlet, Irvington, and Newark Municipal Court with bail totaling $765. The arrest reportedly revealed Smith to be in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was charged with possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia. Ms. Smith was lodged into the Union County Jail on an additional $1,500 bail.

At approximately 7:33 a.m., Patrolman Kyle Lamar responded to the rear parking lot of an apartment complex on West Westfield Avenue after a report was received from a resident regarding two suspicious persons on the property. Police made contact with Octavio Ferreiro, age 35 and Eva Byfield, age 26 – both from Roselle Park. They were found to be in possession of suspected heroin, hypodermic needles, drug paraphernalia. Ms. Byfield was also in possession of suspected marijuana. They were ultimately arrested and charged with two counts of possession of CDS, possession of a syringe, and drug paraphernalia. Mr. Ferreiro was also found to have an outstanding no-bail child support warrant out of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Both were lodged into the Union County Jail on $15,000 bail.
