Planet Dance, located in Roselle Park, took 1st Place in the small group Hip-Hop category at the “That’s Entertainment” Performing Arts Competition in Atlantic City held on May-16,-17, 2015. Additionally, in competing against other dance schools throughout the state, Planet Dance also received a special award with an overall highest score of 297.4 for that competition session along with an overall award of the whole regional competition . A perfect score for the competition was 300. That’s Entertainment is a New Jersey performing arts organization has been providing family-oriented events and competitions since 2000.
“We think competitions are important for the students because it teaches them about hard work and sportsmanship,” said Erica Campione, co-owner and instructor at Planet Dance, “It increases their confidence and allows them to showcase their ability in front of other schools. It’s also important for the school and its choreographers because it allows us to showcase our creativity and passion for teaching.”
Along with her sister and co-owner Gina, the two siblings have been dancing since they were three-years-old and have been teaching a broad spectrum of dance from Tap to Lyrical to Ballet to Jazz to Flamenco to Hip-Hop.
In adding another in a growing field of trophies that adorn their window on Chestnut Street, Gina commented on how it is a testament not only to the school but also to the dedication of the students, “These kids here we taught since they were 5 years old. They are now between the ages of 14-21. We are so proud of them for all their hard work & dedication.”
