Thursday October 21, 2010, at approximately 8:21 p.m., Detective Hussam Assad and Detective Dominick Frino observed a male, later identified as Brandon R. Clanton, age 34, of Piscataway, NJ, run across East Westfield Avenue against traffic and nearly struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling west on the four lane highway. A pedestrian stop was initiated on South Sheridan Avenue at East Westfield Avenue for violation of NJSA 39:4-34 (pedestrian use of crosswalk).
When stopped and while speaking with Clanton in regards to the reason for the stop, Detective Assad observed him quickly attempt to hide an item in his front left pants pocket. This item was found to be a small clear plastic “knot” containing a white powdery substance suspected to be CDS cocaine.
Clanton was placed under arrest and charged with possession of CDS cocaine. He was released pending a superior court appearance on November 1, 2010.
