Ordinance 2540: Salaries For Five Municipal Positions

The salary ranges for four (4) new positions and an increase in the minimum and maximum of an existing position are on-hand to be approved by the governing body.

The Economic Development Director, whose candidate had a closed session during the July municipal meeting, will have her salary range included in Ordinance 2540. The three other new positions include the Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA), Part-Time Laborer, and the Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer.

The Economic Development Director will have an accompanying ordinance at the same meeting (Ordinance 2542) as will the Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer (Ordinance 2541). Even though the ordinance gives a maximum of $100,000 for the Economic Development Director, it was lowered to $95,000 at its introduction.

The only existing position that will have an increase in its salary maximum is that of the Municipal Court Administrator. The current range was established in Ordinance 2430 four years ago. That ordinance was to cover the years 2015 through 2019 with a range of $25,000 to $65,000. This new ordinance keeps the minimum but increases the cap to $95,000.

Ordinance 2430 did have a salary range for Purchasing Agent with a range from $10,000 to $65,000. The new position of QPA has a range of $15,000 to $50,000.

No comment was provided publicly during the ordinance’s introduction at the July 19th Mayor & Council meeting as to the method developed which established the ranges.

The public hearing and vote on the ordinance are set for the August 16th municipal meeting which is set to start at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place in council chambers of the Roselle Park Municipal Complex located at 110 East Westfield Avenue.
