Ordinance 2532: Placement Of Garbage On Curbs

In an attempt to make the T-district look more presentable and sanitary, an ordinance will be voted on at Thursday night’s municipal meeting. This area of town gets garbage picked up six (6) times a week.

Throughout the borough, garbage bags placed on the curb will no longer be allowed. Although always the case, the ordinance further defines what is considered a suitable container. Property owners and tenants will have to place garbage bags in 20- to 30-gallon capacity garbage cans constructed of metal, rubber or plastic. Each container will require a ‘tight fitting’ cover and equipped with a pull handle or handles. The total weight of the container – when filled – shall not exceed 50 pounds.

50-gallon drums or other similar overweight containers may not be used for curbside garbage.

Additionally, no package, bundle or material placed on the curb for regular garbage pickup shall be longer than four feet in length.

In the central business district, garbage will only be allowed to be placed at the curb between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 in the morning on the day of pick-up.

The public hearing on Ordinance 2532 and vote by council is set for the 7 p.m. June 21st Mayor & Council meeting at borough hall which is located at 110 East Westfield Avenue.
