Ordinance 2507 will add a late fee of $2 a month with an annual maximum of $10 for anyone who fails to register their cat(s) by January 31st of each year.
Currently, there is no late fee for failing to register one’s cat as is the case for dogs.
The fee for a cat license and registration tag will remain at $10 for each spayed or neutered cat and $15 for every unaltered domesticated feline. Unlike fees for dogs, there are no state-mandated funds that are required for cat owners.
The ordinance, along with companion piece Ordinance 2506 which addresses an increase in dog license fees, is scheduled to have its public hearing and vote by the governing body tonight at the Mayor & Council meeting tonight at 7 p.m. located at 110 East Westfield Avenue.
