Ordinance 2487 will establish connection fees for new builds that connect to the borough’s sanitary sewer system. This is a new section that, if approved, will be added to the Sewer Utility section of Chapter 27, Article 7, of the borough’s laws. This does not apply to already existing connections.
The one-time fee is set at $2,862.47 for ‘each unit’. This last wording is unclear whether it will be for each unit – as in an apartment – or for each connection to the sewer system. If it is determined that the fee would be for each unit, a development like the proposed Meridia @ Westfield located at the old Domani’s property with 213-apartments would have the municipality collect fees over $600,000.
In line with NJSA 40A:26A-11, the fee shall be calculated to be equivalent to what existing users have paid for the sewer system along with improvements made over time.
The ordinance is set to be voted on – after a public hearing – by council at the May 4th Mayor & Council meeting starting at 7 p.m. in council chambers of the Roselle Park Municipal Complex located at 110 East Westfield Avenue.
