Ordinance 2471: Parking At Gazebo Park During Farmers Market

Proposed Ordinance 2471 will add a section to Roselle Park Borough Code 7-40(1)(d). This will establish parking restrictions on Wednesdays during the Roselle Park Farmers Market season between July and November of every year at Michael Mauri ‘Gazebo’ Park.

Every Wednesday, parking spaces 1 through 24 – the ones located right off of the Chestnut Street entrance to Michael Mauri Park – will but unavailable for motorists to park their vehicles. These stalls will be reserved for vendors of the farmers market.

There are two clarifications that need to be addressed in the proposed law:

Section 5(a) gives authority to restrict parking on Wednesdays during the months of July through October.

Section 5(b) prohibits parking from “8:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.” on Wednesdays during the months of July through November.

The simple typographical error can be adjusted to correctly read 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The months will have to be corrected to either reflect that the restrictions end in October or November.

Reviewing past farmers market seasons over the last few years, they have been extended until November so it appears that section 5(a) should be changed to the month of November.

The ordinance will also give the municipality the authority to tow any vehicles that park in stalls 1 through 24 on Wednesdays during the Roselle Park Farmers Market.

As a side note, the ordinance – in section (d)(2) – refers to parking spaces 54 through 60. A physical inspection of Michael Mauri Park revealed that the parking spaces were only numbered 1 through 53.

The second reading, public hearing, and vote on Ordinance 2471 is set for the August 18th Mayor & Council meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will be in council chambers of the Roselle Park Municipal Complex located at 110 East Westfield Avenue.
