On Sunday, March 8th, at approximately 03:58 a.m., Patrolman Angelo Marino conducted a motor vehicle stop with a 2009 Ford on Locust Street for a moving violation.
The driver of the vehicle, Kathleen L. Gai, age 24 of Roselle, was found to have an outstanding warrant out of East Brunswick Municipal Court with a $1,000 bail. She was also found to be driving while suspended. Ms. Gai was arrested without incident and transported to police headquarters for processing.
According to the police report, while at headquarters, one of the passengers from the original traffic stop, Daniel P. Paul, age 25 of Elizabeth, became enraged and disorderly by yelling and cursing at officers while standing in the lobby of police headquarters. He then reportedly began calling 9-1-1 several times with no emergency to report.
With the assistance of Roselle Police who were called in to assist with the situation, Mr. Paul was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and causing a false public alarm. While being placed into custody, it is alleged that Paul violently resisted arrest, causing injury to one of the officers. He was also charged with criminal mischief after he purposely damaged police property while in custody. Bail was set at $25,000. He posted bail and was released with a court date.
A second passenger from the traffic stop, Ardens Sajouste, age 24 from Hillside, was also arrested after he physically obstructed the officers efforts in their arrest of Mr. Paul, according to police. Mr. Sajouste was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction and bail set at $5,000. He posted full bail and was released with a court date.
Kathleen Gai posted cash bail and was released.
