Roselle Park’s 16th annual National Night Out celebration along with a townwide picnic is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 2nd at the Casano Community Center starting a 5 p.m.
The Honor Guard will hold their Presenting The Colors ceremony at 5:15 in the afternoon and this will be followed by demonstrations from the Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD). They, along with the Roselle Park Police Fire Department and First Aid Squad will be on-hand to provide information on safety – from bicycle and pool safety to crime and fire. There will also be police cars, emergency vehicles, and fire trucks that children can climb into and learn about.
Live music, games, free giveaways, and a waterslide (on Chestnut Street) will be part of the celebration.
The free townwide picnic will be in front of the Casano Community Center.
The event is sponsored by the RPPD’s Neighborhood Watch program, a group that wants to create a ‘community network to provide a safer place to live’.
National Night Out (NNO) is a crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) which started in 1983. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
It is customary to turn your porch light on that evening to show your support against crime. For more information call Rupen Shah at (908) 245-0666.
