“My County” Poster Contest

Thursday night had the mayor & council recognize two young resident artists who were top winners in the 2017 “My County” poster contest sponsored by the Union County Constitutional Officers. Ying Chow was awarded 3rd place and Sofia Ortiz was presented 1st place.

The contest was open to fourth graders throughout the county and over 200 young artists submitted entries this year. From those submissions, 12 posters were chosen to be published in an annual Union County poster calendar. The four top winners were awarded special place recognition.

To put things a little bit in perspective, out of 200+ artists, two of them were young ladies who not only came from the same town and the same public school district but the same school – Sherman Elementary School.

First Ward Councilman Eugene Meola presented both artists with Certificates of Achievement for their accomplishments. Allowing their work to speak for themselves, Ms. Ortiz and Ms. Chow simply thanked those in attendance.

Councilman Meola stated that once the county exhibit is completed, the 22″ x 28″ posters will be brought home to Borough Hall and have them on display here for public viewing.
