The Municipal Land Use Board (MLUB) meeting scheduled for tomorrow night, May 15th, has been canceled.
This meeting was already a postponed meeting from April which would have the owner of the Hawthorne property return with a new application for a proposed development on the former Leberco Laboratory site. Originally, the application was for a small apartment complex with commercial property on the bottom floor. After numerous concerns regarding parking from both residents in the area as well as MLUB members, the applicant postponed a vote from the board.
Due to local land use law, parking for commercial space would have required a variance – or waiver – from the board to not have all parking spaces be provided on the property. The concern from residents in the Hawthorne Street area was that this parking would overflow into the streets and exacerbate issues with already limited parking in the neighborhood.
Sources familiar with the issue have stated that the developer plans to return with an application that has townhouses and no commercial property.
The next scheduled MLUB meeting is set for Monday, June 12th, at the Roselle Park Municipal Complex.
