The Municipal Land Use Board (MLUB) formally approved the borough’s portion of a proposed Wawa near the Garden State Parkway during the board’s March 13th meeting.
The board verbally approved the minor site plan application in January however the delay was due to no MLUB meeting in February.
On the western border of Roselle Park next to Sun Tavern, the chain store had its application hearing for the 0.41 acre that comprises 25 of the 55 parking spaces of the convenience store’s parking lot.
Residents from Grove Street approached the board about issues with vehicles traveling on their dead end street in order to access the Garden State Parkway from the eastbound side of Westfield Avenue. They felt that Wawa would add to the problem. Although sympathetic with the residents, the board stated that there was nothing that the applicant could do to alleviate that since Grove Street – although directly north of the property – was not part of the application. A recommendation was made to have a meeting with the mayor to discuss traffic issues on Grove Street.
The application was approved with the conditions that the project required New Jersey Department Of Transportation (NJ DOT) approval. Additionally, if approved by NJ DOT, the applicant would be responsible to erect signage (Exit Only/Right Turn Only).
