Early this morning after midnight, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Roselle Park Police responded to the railroad tracks off of the 300 block of Seaton Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck by a train.
Upon arrival, police observed a young adult male deceased on the railroad track area. Preliminary investigation revealed that the male was walking along the railroad tracks as a westbound Norfolk Southern freight train struck him.
Detectives are continuing their investigation as to the circumstances that lead to the incident. They are also awaiting fingerprint analysis for confirmation of the young man’s identity although various sources, including school officials, have stated that the young man was Andrew Roa, an 18-year-old Roselle Park High School student.
This is the third such fatal train incident in five years. In January of 2011, a 16-year-old RPHS student was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train and in September of 2010, a man was killed by a Newark-bound NJ Transit train.
