In the early hours of Friday morning August 18th, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) officers responded to the area of Madison Avenue on a report of three (3) males walking in the street and pulling on door handles of parked vehicles.
One of the males was described by the witness as a black male with a red sweatshirt around his waist.
While checking the area, Patrolman Angelo Marino located two (2) males walking along East Grant Avenue – one of which fit the description given by the witness. An on-scene identification was conducted and both were positively identified as the individuals observed on Madison Avenue.
Further investigation by patrol revealed that two unlocked parked vehicles along Madison Avenue were burglarized and items were removed from the vehicle. Those items were located on one of the males, who was identified as Otis E. Jones, age 20 from Elizabeth.
Mr. Jones was placed under arrest and later charged with burglary to a motor vehicle (3rd degree) and theft (disorderly person’s offense). He was ultimately released on a summons with a Union County Superior Court Date.
The second male was identified and released without charges. The third male was never located.
